1.用作副词，主要表示“立即”“马上”。如：

有时表示在时间或空间方面很接近或直接，此时通常用于形容词、副词、介词短语等之前。如：

He lives immediately next to us. 他就住在我们隔壁。

I left immediately after I heard the news. 我一听到这消息后马上就离开了。

2.有时可用作连词（尤其在英国英语中），意为“一……就”，相当于 as soon as。如：
